Our Brainstorming Meeting

Today we held a meeting we call the DBM (Danemco Brainstorming Meeting). We had prepared questions on all sorts of topics such as client service, marketing, operations, our products, etc. in advance and asked everyone to come to the meeting with ideas to share with others. We sat around a conference room table and spent a good three hours talking about things we can do to boost efficiency, how to handle certain situations, and so forth. It was very productive -- we came out of the meeting with at least 40 ideas we can implement right away to help our company serve our clients better.
I recommend a healthy break to stop and think about your business. In Steven R Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, he lists Sharpening The Saw as the seventh habit. He tells a story about a woodsman who is so busy sawing down a tree that he can't stop to sharpen the saw, although stopping for a moment to sharpen the saw will help boost his efficiency and in the end get the job done faster.
When you taking time out to focus on what areas of your business you can improve you may be surprised, as I was, how many practical solutions you will find to the problems or questions that you face.
